Interdisciplinary Integration Project for Aging Society (Chula ARi) delivered Robot-Mediated Motor Therapy for Medical Development Clinic and Klang Hospital to rehabilitate patients with mobility problems, with Prof. Kiat Ruxrungtham, M.D., Vice President of Chulalongkorn University, Prof. Vipan Prachuabmoh, Ph.D., Dean of College of Population Studies and Planning Director, Assoc. Prof. Krisna Piravej, M.d., Innovation and Technology Research Group and Ms. Pranee Whaenthongkam, Project Manager as representatives to give the robots to Theerapol Topanthanont, M.d., Director and secretary of Medical Development Clinic and Petpong Kumjornkijjakarn, M.d., Director of Klang Hospital with a demonstration on how to use them on December 13th.
Robot-Mediated Motor Therapy is an achievement of Chula ARi under the operation of the Innovation and Technology Research Group, which has been tested and qualified according to medical ethical standards. Features of the robots: 10 time cheaper than ordering from abroad has exceptional performance help with the cognitive and physical rehabilitation of the elderly at the same time help physiotherapists to work more efficiently and increase opportunities for patients to access new innovations.
Those robots were developed through an integration between Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Engineering which could be divided into 2 parts as follows: 1) A practice under the supervision of medical personnel that can rehabilitate patients with mobility problems and require rehabilitation according to a programmable motion path.; and 2) A game to make the practice more interesting. It's a brain game along with arm exercises. Games have been developed to allow practice to enhance patients' mobility, as well as robots, which were also developed to be able to connect to various games on the internet to help relax. It also helps to enhance the performance of physiotherapists by being able to take care of patients while doing activities at the same time. Many people and increase the opportunity for patients to access new innovations.
Furthermore, Chula ARi has plans to deliver Robot-Mediated Motor Therapy to other hospitals to enhance the system to support the aging society in the metropolitan area.
